It’s a Becky Goldsmith quilt show!

There is an exhibit of my quilts hanging in the Dennis Gallery at Austin College. This is a lovely space, part of the new art building (the Betsy Dennis Forster Art Studio Complex) on the north side of the campus. Click here to read the official press release. The exhibit is open M-F from 9:00-4:30 and it ends March 15. If you find yourself in north Texas, I hope you can come see it.

It is interesting for me to see so many of my quilts hanging together. In fact, it is a new experience for me. When they are home, my quilts are rolled up and stored on high shelves. I mostly see the ones that travel with me and the few that hang in the house.

I've made a lot of quilts in the last 25 years and many of them are in this exhibit. Simply Delicious is in the show:

And so is Stars in the Garden:

And so are newer quilts like Lorna's Vine, Tree O' Life, and Picasso's Garden:

I find it rewarding to see these quilts that are the result of years of work hanging there, for all to see. It makes me smile! And then it makes me want to get back to work. Isn't that the way of it for all of us? Making quilts is the best part!

  1. Becky, that is so exciting that your quilts are hanging there. I would love to visit and see them. I miss visiting the campus now that DGD has graduated. Maybe she and I need to plan a road trip!

  2. Simply Delicious is the first quilt of yours I saw at Rita Barber’s quilt show in Lancaster. It stopped me dead in my tracks – – – I loved everything about it. There’s still something about the soft pieced b&w fabrics in the backgrounds with the warm fruit colors that sings to me. I did a stars in the garden class with you a bit later, but it’s the fruit! I’m glad that you still have them!

  3. Simply Delicious is the first quilt I ever started collecting fabric for but my skills weren’t up to the task then. I still love it and seeing your version makes me want to finally pull out that self made kit and make it!

  4. Becky, two of my friends and I went to see your quilts yesterday. Photos do not do them justice. They were all beautiful and the quilting was just great, it gave me so many ideals. I would like to ask you about the batting. Can you get it local or do you have to order it? Also, I think you had hand quilted and machine quilted on one of the quilts – I don’t remember what batting you had used,is there a batting for hand and machine quilting on the same quilt? Since I just live about 15 minutes away, I will be going back to see your quilts. Jimmie

  5. Hi Jimmie:
So glad you liked the show! I know that I think the quilts look pretty nice in that space, all hung together.
Ive used a variety of batts over the years. Most recently Ive used Cotton Rose from Fairfield. I like it… but the quilt has a little more drape than Im used to after machine quilting. Might be perfect for a baby quilt or throw. Right now Im working with a Pellon natural cotton batt. I think I like it better but Ill know more later.
Mountain Mist Blue Ribbon is a nice, normal batt that is also good.

  6. Becky,
You and Linda are so talented…I would love to see your rendition of the first and second pix of the tiles. They look like a pieceOCake design. I feel privileged to have been in your class last month. Learned so much and feel freer in design and fabric selection. Thank you for your patience! Your quilts speak to me.
