I left Punta Gorda on Friday after my lecture and arrived in Brandon, a suburb of Tampa. The Brandon Quilt Guild meets at a very nice church. Outside the classroom I was amazed to see a pair of sandhill cranes…
One of my stdents said that these birds mate for life and that this pair is often on church grounds. Not something I see out my window in Sherman.
I put a pillow on my class supply list. It's very handy to rest you arms on when you sew. Claudia, a woman in class, brought this pillow:
It's like a polar fleece throw, but small and with a pillow inside. No sewing!
You cut two pieces of fleece that are 8" wider and taller than the pillow you want to cover. Make cuts 4" deep, and 3/4"-1 apart into each side. Tie the two pieces of fleece together with the pillow in between. She said that kids love them and I don't doubt it.
I had nothing scheduled for Sunday and was really looking forward to getting some work done so I was seriously unhappy to wake up to find that my sinus infection (and headache) had bounded back. I am lucky that my physician was reachable and called in a new prescription. I was thankful that I wasn't supposed to teach because I mostly just layed around feeling pitiful. I do so hate wasting a day but there you go.
Today is another full day of teaching and a lecture. I'm flying home Tuesday at the crack of before dawn. Who knows – maybe the next plane ride will un-stuff my ears!

Oh how I hate those sinus infections, they get into your ears and eyes too. To say nothing of the headache, sorry you still feeling bad Becky. I love this pillow, my daughter had made throws like this years ago but I have never seen the pillow…this will make quick and adorable Valentines for my 2 granddaughters!

You are brave! Flying with any kind of head congestion is SO painful! Especially the take-off/landing. Ouch. But, I guess you didn’t have much choice if you wanted to get home. arrgh. Hope you feel better soon.

Its so funny what kind of “wild life” you get used to seeing on a daily basis. Sand hill cranes are everywhere here (Florida). In fact, I’m looking at some in my back yard now. The park I walk in every morning has dozens of peacocks…..pretty, but can be loud and nasty!

Hi Becky! There is nothing that I could ever teach you about quilting (I did take a class from you about 4 years ago in Sacramento and I have just about every book that you’ve ever made: love your work!!) But I’ve had more experience with sinus infections than I can count, and the one thing that helps immensely is to use a sinus wash, religiously!! There’s one that I use called NeilMed, and it comes with the bottle and the salt packets too. Works wonders!!! It won’t get rid of a sinus infection once you have one, but I use it when I first get a cold so I don’t get a sinus infection. I hope you are feeling better now π and that the info I’ve given you will help you next time you have a cold. Take care, and good health wishes to you!!

Hi Helen:
Thanks for the advice. I do, in fact, use the Neil Med neti pot and salt packs twice a day. Ive been doing that for months. It helps a lot.
