Contractor Rick is going to start work on the master bath tomorrow. Now, there are a lot of you who will look at our master bath and wonder what is so masterful about it. It's connected to our bedroom which by default makes it the masters' bath 🙂 but it is small by today's standards.
Here's a look in the other direction:
As I said, it's small In fact, our whole house is even smaller than I thought it was. Rick calculated how much flooring we need to order and it looks like the original house plans counted the garage in the total square footage. We're at or under 1700 square feet. You know what? I wouldn't want a bigger house and I'm not just saying that because I'm not going to ever get a bigger house. It's a perfect fit for us.
Later this week the crew is going to scrape the popcorns off the ceilings in the rooms that still have them. Then they will paint those ceilings. In preparation for that, Steve and I have been packing up all of the knick knacks and wall art. I've got the quilts rolled and put away. Most of the cabinets are empty. The whole house is looking (and sounding) bare. It's odd.
As I was moving books to the garage, I weeded them out. If any of you live close enough to Sherman, all but one of these books will be in a garage sale to benefit the Sherman Symphony. There are some very good/expensive-when-I-bought-them books on quilts and quilting, art, color, and design.
The garage sale will be from 7:30 to noon, Saturday, April 27 at 1202 South Travis, Sherman. I'm guessing there will be a lot of very good buys in addition to my books.
I held back one book, Kaffe Fassett's Quilt Road, to give away on this blog. I liked it so much I bought two copies! Good luck with the renovation! What an exciting and chaotic time, but it sure beats moving! I’ve always wanted Quilt Road–it’s hard to keep up with all of Kaffe’s beautiful books, and I just found out he has another one coming out in the fall.

My house is echoing too. Tomorrow the sheetrockers start on the ceiling and then the painters and then the new floor. Tonight I will sleep on the sofa in the family room in the basement – then tomorrow afternoon we head off on vacation for 10 days. Hope everything is mostly done when we get back.

I will always remember your visit to our local guild here in Naples, FL. You opened my eyes to using brights and polka dots…I love your dots. It has been fun watching your remodels. Remodels are always interesting. We redid a bath and added a shower….seemed like it took longer than we thought but it is so very worth it. Good luck! I would enjoy Kaffe’s book….so add me to the drawing.

Oh yes, Kaffe Fassett is WONDERFUL. I would love to have his book and it would be extra special to know it was owned by YOU. Good luck on your remodel. One rule to remodeling for my experience: It takes longer and costs more! But worth it for sure.

i love kaffe fassett…i live in a big house but will be moving to a much smaller home in the future so i am in the process of downsizing…i recently painted my sewing room and got rid of some of my extras

Isn’t it delightful to have new / updated spaces to look forward to? I recently had the gold-colored louvers on my gas fireplace painted black. It makes the fireplace seem so much more up-to-date. I’m happy every time I look at it. enjoy your new spaces, and I hope Kaffe’s book finds its way to my house!

Sorry you have to go through a remodel but you will love it when it’s done. I have a small master bath also. I am trying to decide how I can remodel and make it a Little larger.

Every once in a while it’s great to pack up everything, in anticipation of a remodel. Cull out, fix up, regroup. Quilt Road is not available at my local libraries, and it’s pricey, so this would be quite a treat for me!

I agree with you on the house size! Our house is about the same size. it was tight with 3 kids, but it’s perfect for us now that they don’t live at home for any extended time. When we get the kids through college we will be gutting out little “master bath” (it’s about 5 x 8)to make it accessible for whe we get older, eg a walik in shower stall. We only have one more room left with the popcorn, but it’s the valuted ceiling in the family room…count me in on the kaffe book!

Aloha, I’ll be following your bathroom remodel (trials and tribulations) with great interest since the hubby and I are planning something similar. Our current house was built in the 30s and the “master” bath is a weird extension of the bedroom with no door, ugh! Would love to be entered in your drawing…….

It’s amazing to me how many comments you get when there’s a give away. Anyhow, your house is about the size of mine. Ours is 1500 square feet without the garage. It’s fits my husband and I just fine. We just have one bathroom upstairs and it looks a lot like yours does now. We had a four bedroom colonial until the kids moved out. Now I’m perfectly content in our little house. So much less to clean, heat, insure and the whole rest of it. Wish I lived a whole lot closer to Sherman. I’d be at the garage sale for sure!!
