Demolition begins tomorrow…

(Alert: Be sure to read to the bottom – there's a blog giveaway!)

Contractor Rick is going to start work on the master bath tomorrow. Now, there are a lot of you who will look at our master bath and wonder what is so masterful about it. It's connected to our bedroom which by default makes it the masters' bath 🙂 but it is small by today's standards.

Here's a look in the other direction:

Bath-Before-02

As I said, it's small In fact, our whole house is even smaller than I thought it was. Rick calculated how much flooring we need to order and it looks like the original house plans counted the garage in the total square footage. We're at or under 1700 square feet. You know what? I wouldn't want a bigger house and I'm not just saying that because I'm not going to ever get a bigger house. It's a perfect fit for us.

Later this week the crew is going to scrape the popcorns off the ceilings in the rooms that still have them. Then they will paint those ceilings. In preparation for that, Steve and I have been packing up all of the knick knacks and wall art. I've got the quilts rolled and put away. Most of the cabinets are empty. The whole house is looking (and sounding) bare. It's odd.

As I was moving books to the garage, I weeded them out. If any of you live close enough to Sherman, all but one of these books will be in a garage sale to benefit the Sherman Symphony. There are some very good/expensive-when-I-bought-them books on quilts and quilting, art, color, and design.

The garage sale will be from 7:30 to noon, Saturday, April 27 at 1202 South Travis, Sherman. I'm guessing there will be a lot of very good buys in addition to my books.

I held back one book, Kaffe Fassett's Quilt Road, to give away on this blog. I liked it so much I bought two copies! So, leave a comment below and Lorna or I will randomly choose a lucky winner on Wednesday morning. And be watching – I have a few premier issues of Generation Q magazine to give away next!

  1. Becky, you are so busy and still find time to give things to your readers. Hope everything goes well with the redo’s.
Whoever wins the book will be a lucky person. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

  3. it is so hard to clean out, but feels so good when it is done.
We had some painting done a few months ago and still have some things in boxes from that and going thru those now and editing big time….we have lived in this house for 12 years and used to move every few years…clutter accummulates quickly! Major declutter in progress here!

  4. Your bathroom looks a lot like ours with those low sinks – except our sinks are located in the bedroom… very strange. I want a redo so badly!!! Would love any Kaffe Fassett book! : – )

  7. As someone who recently downsized on purpose, let me say smaller is better. When you use every square inch, the need to hold onto things dissipates.
I’d love to own the Kaffe book! I have just the spot for it, too.

  8. I painted the ceiling in our master bedroom blue when we moved here 12 years ago and have been thinking it was time for a change. Think our houses must be close to the same age since you mentioned popcorn ceilings. Your room is looking good!!

  9. We did our bathroom, kitchen and then had the other rooms (living room and den) over a matter of a couple of months. I just can’t figure out why I didn’t do it all when I first moved in rather than 10 years later (when it had been 10 years of needing work). I do love seeing it all remodeled. I hope you get the same satisfaction.
I’d love the book should I be the winner!

  10. Yes please. I love a good yard sale AND Kaffe Fasset quilting books. We also have a small house with a small bathroom…just one, and both daughters are currently living at home sharing it with us. Funny how a small house grows to contain all those people and things that you love. Good luck with your remodel.

  12. Hi, Becky! Your bathroom looks much like ours, & I have big plans for them someday! 😉 2 years ago we redid all 4 bedrooms, scraping ceiling popcorn, paint and carpet. It was literally like moving 1/2 of our house. Ugh! But, oh, it’s so nice to have it done! flooring in rest of the house, kitchen, & baths are next, someday. You’ll love the new ceilings.
Would love to have the book – Kaffe is so inspirational!
    Missing you in Tulsa!

  13. Your master bathroom looks just like My master bath! Same layout except we have a window by the sink instead of a door and the door is in front of the commode. Even the vanity looks like you sponge painted mine. While our bathrooms don’t look like the fancy ones on TV, they are a lot easier and quicker to clean. I would much rather be quilting! Let us know how the renovations go and post pics! Good luck!

  16. Darn, I hate that I live so far away and will have to miss your garage sale!!! Might be just as well… I am anxious to see your new book (and coloring book too!). As much as I like POC products, a Kaffe book would be great to win!

  17. We remodeled a similar era bathroom. It was wonderful when it was finished and worth the mess and inconvenience. You’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner. I wish I could come to your garage sale also! I’d appreciate my name in the drawing for Kaffe Fassett’s book.

  18. We live in a 1060 sq ft. log cabin. It is just the two of us and it is plenty. I have a cozy 6 x 8 ft sewing nook which is just enough. I’d love to win the book. Good luck with your remodel.
