Below is my block from Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, volume 7. The applique is both simple and fun. This is a block that can be combined with a other appliqued or pieced blocks – and I'll bet that you can find several to choose from in Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks!
If you are new to applique and/or would like to learn more about how to do it I'd like to point you to these resources:

- The dvd, Learn To Applique the Piece O' Cake Way, is great or its own or as a supplement to the book.
The applique, center square, and sashing are slightly off-center. If you want to, you can center the design by adding to the widths of the narrower outer borders and trimming the block square to center the design.
I used a wide stripe in the block borders. If you can't find fabric with a wide stripe, and you like this look, piece strips together to make your own striped fabric in colors of your own choosing.
One way to use this block by itself would be to add borders to it. I would play with the off-centeredness of the design, adding asymetrical borders to make a pillow or small wall quilt.
It would also be fun to rotate the block and trim it, putting the flowers in the 4 corners of the block. If you do this, cut the narrower block borders as wide as the wider border strips so that you you have enough fabric to cut a square.

Quilters have to have some patience. Coming back to this block was well forth the wait today. I know ladies who know you personally as my best friend and I joined Green Country Quilters Guild about 3 years ago. I thought you had to be a really, really good quilter to join a guild. It is fun. I have one of your books and took a class on needle turn from Jane at Cotton Patch. I still find needle turn intimidating. I just need to practice and get to my project. Thanks for an awesome block. I like the way it off center a tad. I certainly can relate to that. Congrats on being included in an awesome magazine.

Some years ago I bought your DVD learn to applique the piece o´cake way and has been the best investment I have ever made. Your block is beautiful as always and I also think that if I use it with the borders another quilt can be done. Please count me in!

Dresden blocks are the first reason I became interested in quilting a few years ago. But, every time I went to a local quilt shop which is now closed, I would just stand and drool over her quilts with flowers and the vines running around the borders and kept thinking *I* can do that. I really love the look although hers were all done with wool and I would prefer cotton. I love that your book has just this exact type of quilting blocks shown from what I have seen. I will cross my fingers to be chosen as your lucky winner, but if not, it’s definitely going onto my wish list for sure. Thank you for the chance and congratulations for being included into Vol. 7.

As always, you offer the cutest designs. I love how the block swirls. Off topic after scrolling through earlier posts–Your rescued art works seem to have a theme–mostly–of trees. You could do an exhibit. I like to gather art like that as well(though there is no space to hang any of it, it seems), but I tend to gravitate towards seascapes.
