I hope you can help us with washing the smaller / precuts – If 2 1/2 inch squares shrink a little bit … (or a few threads pull / not perfect on-grain cut) ???

You can put small pieces in a lingerie bag but it’s still a pain. I don’t buy precuts any smaller than layer cakes—and I rarely buy layer cakes. Bits of fabric have to be pretty special for me to fool with if they are smaller than a fat quarter.
