Wednesday Giveaway – A Place for Everything!

And everything in its place! Pam Unnasch has won The Stitch App, from the makers of the popular Lap App. This caddy has a strong neodymium magnet to contain pins, a recessed tray area for miscellaneous notions, two 3 1/2″ spindles with easy-turn knobs to hold spools or bobbins, a cup area for your tools, and felted wool balls to help sort your needles! All this, with a convenient handle on top for easy transport of your supplies between stitching locations.

I’ll be back with another Giveaway next Wednesday. Until then you can shop for all sorts of sewing notions, books, and other fun stuff at pieceocake.com!

  1. This must be fate. I just read a book by Louise Penny where neodymium played a part in the plot of this mystery. Count me in, please.

  2. I love my lap app. So I trust that this industrial looking sculpture will be highly functional and soon become a treasured sewing tool, if I am the lucky winner.

  3. Thanks for sharing the video on blanket stitches. I have a couple books on embroidery stitches but have not seen these variations. Question: what in your opinion is the best pencil for drawing lines on fabric that you need to erase? And what’s the best way to erase those pencil lines?

    • Hi Mary:
I don’t use marking tools with disappearing inks because they all have problems. That leaves pencils. If you intend to wash the project, you could use a watercolor or water soluble pencil but I am never sure about washing, so I don’t do that either. You can still use these pencils on fabric, but I tend not to.
On light fabrics, I use a very sharp firm or extra-firm graphite Blackwing pencil and I make fine, light lines. I don’t erase unless I absolutely have to because it messes up the nap of the fabric and it is not always successful. I use the General’s eraser that is on my site for that.
On darker fabrics, I would use either the Sewline mechanical pencil with the white ceramic fill or the General’s charcoal white.
In all cases, do not iron lines as it will set them into the fabric.
      I hope this helps :-).

  4. I am always looking for the perfect ‘handy tote’ to keep my tools close, but neat & not floating around & disappearing. This looks like this will do it.

  5. Great video on Blanket Stitch — I use it so much with wool applique so I cannot wait to try some of the great alternatives! Also, how nice to have one thing to hold all of your applique tools. I can finally throw away the empty plastic food containers I have saved for that.

  6. I found your blog by “accident” a year ago and have found it to be extremely valuable. Your blog has given me the knowledge and courage to learn appliqué. Along the way, I found the Blackwing sharpener, pencils, appliqué rods and stiletto and other wonderful tools, which have become part of my treasured quilting/applique tools. Thank you Becky!!
