The Bohin Self Threading needle has an opening on top to pop the thread through. Little interlocking ‘teeth’ hold the thread in the eye of the needle. They are perfect for many sewing situations—I use them for burying tails of thread when I machine quilt and so will this week’s winner – Rebecca Myers!
Self-threading needles are a little thicker than other sewing needles to accommodate the wideness at the eye of the needle.

I love this type of needle. You can bury your threads and sew with it. Like you said, it is thicker at the top of needle but that’s okay when burying threads after quilting.
