Linda just got a Sweet Sixteen from Handi Quilter and I have sewing machine lust! She is really excited and I know she's going to love it. Guess what I'm going to be getting instead?
That's right, I'm getting braces. I only need them on my top 8-10 front teeth for 4 months, followed by a retainer. I'm getting the more invisible bands and buttons (I think that's what they call the doodad that is glued to your tooth). As braces go this is not all that bad.
But you know what? Braces = most of the cost of a Sweet Sixteen. That's the part that hurts! At least Linda will have a year to learn all the ins and outs of the Sweet Sixteen and I look forward to the time she can share what she's learned!

I came VERY close to buying last years Sweet Sixteen model at quite a reduced price at a recent Quilt Show. What stopped me? Its lack of feed dogs, meaning it can only be used for quilting. Still, its on the top of my list for my next machine….I’d just have to step up my productivity to justify the cost. Sigh. I’m hoping Linda will post on how much she LOVES it, tipping the scales for me…..

Becky, if your going to have braces, go for the bling. Get colors. Thats the fun for kids-having green, blue, purple, etc. braces. And, why should kids have all the fun!
PS: I do hope Linda lets us all know what happens as she learns to use the Sweet Sixteen.

Good for you! I just did the same thing two months ago – I only have 7 months left!! It feels so good to do something like this for myself as I’m sure it will for you too! And, as much as I would love a new sewing machine, I do love my braces!

I got braces at the age of 51 (I’m now 58), and I have never regretted it! It was a nuisance at the time, but I love having straight teeth. You’re lucky to have to wear them such a short time; it will be over before you know it!

If you want it invisible, why don’t you try Invisalign braces? Most teenagers like you prefer them than the metal ones. It’s the trend today right? And what is great is that the food won’t be stuck on the braces, once you eat. So, try it.

How’s your experience with braces so far? It’s been two years since this post, so I assume you’ve already made significant progress with aligning your teeth. Hope you keep up with your dental appointments and faithfully follow your dentist’s instructions. Cheers to a beautiful smile for you. 🙂

I love the results. I didnt have to wear them very long in comparison to others which was nice. I do wear my retainer every night. I went out of town without once and could tell that in just a few days, my teeth did move. I wont do that again!
