I am Catholic but I had not realized just how Catholic Bavaria is. There are churches in just about every direction. Many are in the Baroque or Rococo styles. I was not good about making notes about the churches I photographed. These photos will just give you an idea about what you might find when you walk inside…
I expected things to be dusty, but they weren’t.
There were paintings in most of the churches and the ceilings were not ignored…
Most of the churches had large pipe organs. I’m not sure which church this organ was in.
And, lastly, none of these churches were out of use as churches. Even though tourists came in, looked, and took photos, they were respectful of the fact that these are houses of God.
Beautiful!

Thank you for sharing these photos. We all know about the Sistine Chapel but perhaps had not realized how many central European churches are equally adorned – at least, I had not realized it. Beautiful!

Thanks for the revisit. My problem when touring Bavaria was that there were so many beautiful churches to see that they began to run together and we could not remember where what was! It is a beautiful experience for sure. We did have a favorite for some reason – the Weiss Church, perhaps because it was our first visit. Your travel posts have been most enjoyable. Thanks!

I am also a Catholic and our church – St. Ann’s in Waterbury, CT – had beautiful paintings all up and down the walls and ceilings – beautifully ornate wood work – and then there was a fire and last I saw the church the ceiling was a plain maybe tan color. Such a shame. Those churches are beautiful !!!!

The talent and time it took to create these masterpieces of art and architecture is mind boggling. Hard to imagine living in such an elaborately adorned world.
