My mom loved Lladdro figurines and she had several. I kept two, one of which I gave her a long time ago. Today, it got broken. I made a loud noise at just the wrong time and Belle (the cat) jumped too close to it and down it went. Boom, crash, done.

I could glue the pieces together but it’s just not the same. I thought about replacing it but decided that that’s not the same either. Plus, I couldn’t find another one just like this online.
So, I did a mom-like thing and stuck her in a flower pot. Her one remaining leg is keeping her in place.

The cactus is from one that was in mom’s kitchen window most of my life. It got big, I ended up with it and nearly killed it. Mom got these bits growing in that pot (that she insisted on painting green) in her last year of life. I am doing my best to not to kill this cactus.
The pot sits on the window sill above my Bernina. I actually like the figure better in the pot than I did where it was, next to my bed. That’s good because this is where she’s going to stay.

Such a good idea! She looks great!

Nothing escapes the process of aging, whether it’s a person, animal, quilt or another inanimate object. Aging equals history. History becomes life’s stories, sometimes an accurate record, more often a bit of folklore. The figurine was an object that triggered your memories of your mom. Now the little porcelain girl has a blemish, a bit of history. She has a story, and she’s far more interesting in that pot of cactus than on a table. She commands attention. Now she will be the starter of conversations so you can share your memories and create some smiles. Mama would love that.

What a sweet memory, planting her in a pot your mom painted, with cacti also from her, was such a good idea. Perhaps it was meant to be.

I think on the windowsill above the Bernina is a place of honor. I love Lladros too. My Mom and Dad went to Europe in 1990 and stopped by the Lladro factory and bought me a beautiful grey and white cat smelling some flowers. Your Lladro looks lovely in the pot. Good idea!

I do clairvoyant reading with animals that need healing. Belle was meant to jump and break your sweet figurine I know its broke but Belle thinks you will now think of the figurine , cactus, painted pot and your mother everytime you see the beautiful arrangement you have created. Curious is there anything special about the day this happened ? It was meant to be. Its beautiful . Gayle

Nope, this is just a regular day. But it was a nice regular day. I suppose what’s good is that I didn’t let this weigh me down where I might have in the past. Older, possibly maybe a little wiser? One can only hope…
