After our older cat, Dave, went to heaven Steve said one cat (Belle) was enough. But then I asked him what if an orange cat shows up at the door? I had to ask because we both have a long-standiing soft spot for orange cats. Our first cat, Booboo was orange and maybe our best cat ever.
Last night over dinner with friends the question about cats came up again and he said, OK, an orange cat would be fine but I could not go out and get one on purpose. The orange cat would have to find me.
This morning on our usual walk, Laurie and I heard meowing. Lots of loud meowing coming from (you guessed it) a small orange cat who ran out to us and would not go away. That cat walked about a half mile with us and that was that.
I called Steve (who was out on his own walk) to tell him this amazing news and he was not entirely happy… until he met the cat. I wanted an orange cat but I do think that this is really going to be Steve’s cat.

We took him to the vet where we found out he did not have a chip. The silly cat was covered with fleas and had just about every parasite a baby cat would have. Happily, he didn’t test positive for feline leukemia. So, in short order he got a bath, shots, and medicine to kill the fleas and other stuff.

Belle is not entirely thrilled. She’s keeping an eye on him most of the time. She’s hissed and spit (normal) and chased him once or twice. I’ve told her that she’s still my cat and this new guy is probably for Steve. Not sure if she believes me or not.

New cat is sleeping off the excitement on my desk right now… dead fleas are falling off him like crazy. That makes me happy!

Belle is perched on the other side of the room, considering this disruption in her life. She probably doesn’t remember that she showed up out of the blue herself, starving and in need of a home. Emma and Dave didn’t love her at first either but Dave at least got used to her.
So, new cat needs a name! It’s not totally my call… Steve will have the final say. But feel free to offer suggestions. Soon, before ‘new cat’ sticks :-).

Sweet Story

What a beautiful M on her head. We name our cats after islands and are fun names to call. The latest ,2 tabby brothers, are rescue barn cats we call Malta & Martinique.

I will pass that idea on to the final arbiter, Steve :-).

We had an orange cat adopt us once – he spent months ingratiating himself with my mother, who is not a cat-person, before he was allowed to stay.

We are sooooo on the same page about orange tabbies! Our best cat was one too and was found in a similar way. His name was Brillo because he had big pink pads on his feet and as a kitten, swallowed a twist-em. That combination of wire and pink clinched his name.
In 1972, an $80 vet bill for removal made it apparent that he was to be ours, and he was for 19 yrs. We haven’t had one show up yet, but I’m ready for it! Best wishes for a good long and happy life to Mr. New Cat. (yes, he does need a better name!)

Orange boys are the best! Cats often choose their owners rather than the other way around so you should feel honored 😹.

I can so relate to your story!!! We live in a rural area and people think they can just dump their animals and “someone” with take them (I hope those people end up with 4 flat tires), We have taken our fair share to the pound and some where just heart breaking stories. (it’s free in our county) because as you know we can’t afford them all (having them fixed, shots, food, etc). We have been visited by the cat god’s several times. We have actually kept 3 over the years. The last was an orange tabby with the longest tail I’ve ever seen showed up 2 yrs ago (after we had lost Bubba who was 18). We too had discussed that we were glad to just have 2 cats now and to keep it that way for awhile ( we had 4 at one time). Well that lasted about 3 weeks after that conversation and the cat gods provided Frazer weighing 2.4 lbs and very hungry. He is the happiest cat I have ever owned. He purr’s just walking across the room!!! So now we are not allowed to have those “conversations” anymore!!!! Be careful what you wish for!!! Everyone should have their animals spayed/neutered. I hope “nameless” will fit in soon.

If Jim lives a long life he could be our last new cat and, if that’s the case, it’s OK. He’s a perfect fit for us. So far, like Frazer, he is happy all the time. Granted we’ve only had him for a day but he gives off the attitude of a very happy cat.

Your new cat is adorable and since I favor people names for pets guess I would name him Max! Was sorry to hear Dave went to Kitty Heaven but know he had had long time health issues. I always enjoyed seeing his pictures because he reminded me of my Sammy. We all will want to know what Steve eventually names the new addition to the family!

From my Dutch Banker husband Moneysuckle. He thinks all pets are a dark hole where his money has gone. Three dogs and two cats later I gave up and agreed with no pets. Love the story. I agree M = Morty.

I grew up with a wonderful yellow kitty named Zipper. He lived to be 18 and was a very happy guy. It was so fun to watch him run, sit down on the wood floor and slide around. He Zipped around the house and that’s how he given that name. Now you little guy is living with a mama who sews and sometimes uses zippers, might be a good name for him.

I like Zipper! Steve, however, was unconvinced.

You are actually lucky. Stray cats are not a good thing. I managed to rescue one, but there are probably hundreds more roaming the city. Be happy that you live in a place where people care enough to not let this happen.

Our best cat ever (and we’ve had quite a few) was an orange tabby named Garfield. Everyone knew him and loved him. Even the vet cried when he went to kitty heaven. That being said, if I ever have an orange one adopt me again, it will be Ginger! And the other kitty should come around soon because she’s lived with other cats before. Our current cat – MiMi – spent her first five years with my mom and hates other cats. After two years she is finally getting along with our Yorkie (9 years old) Charlie. Enjoy – they are such wonderful companions!
