(FYI: Melissa Gerber was chosen by the random number generator to be the winner of the ebook.)
Welcome to you who are visiting today as part of the tour celebrating Kathy Doughty’s new book, Organic Appliqué! Kathy is my friend who just also happens to be a wonderful quilter with excellent quilting and design skills. You can also find this post on Instagram @beckygoldsmith.
Organic Applique is packed with good information about color and design. I was struck as I read the book by the ways Kathy’s take on color is similar to, but different from, my own. In fact, I think that my book, The Quilter’s Practical Guide to Color, and Kathy’s Organic Applique are a perfect pair.
Kathy asked us to interpret a pattern from her book as if we were making it. I chose the pattern “Stolen Moments”. The video walks you through the way I would color this quilt. I hope you enjoy it!
For a chance to win an Organic Applique e-book, leave a comment on this post or on the Instagram post. A winner will be chosen tomorrow.
Be sure to visit the next tour host, Rachael Daisy, on Instagram @bluemountaindaisy tomorrow.

Becky,
Thank you for sharing your take and Kathy Doughty’s book. Really fascinating how you interpreted Kathy’s pattern. I purchased your book, The Quilter’s Guide to Color and haven’t been able to put it down. I mean I have really been studying your book and find it so helpful. Would be great to compare your thoughts on coloring with that of Kathy’s. Additionally I love the project you used, really is fantastic and lends itself to some great ideas.
Thanks for sharing!

I really liked your process of how you did your interpretation of Stolen Moments. It’s one of my favorite quilts in the book. I was thinking of taking a picture of one of the large sage brush on our property and using that instead and scattering quail around the bush. We had over 50 baby quail this year!! They love the sage brush to hide in and shelter from predators. Thanks for your inspiration😊

I love all your gorgeous fabrics! I have to admit that I look at most quilt patterns as “improvisational”. Kathy’s book looks fabulous!

What a lot of fun. I love the book and I really love your interpretation of a pattern it. I am getting the sense that “organic applique” is rather like improv piecing, both of which I find intriguing. Thanks to you and Kathy for the chance to win the book and to you for your fun interpretation.

Hello! I am very interested to see the mystery quilt once completed. I am not good at mystery quilts myself. I need more visual information. It took me 6 years to complete the only one I attempted. I had to replace one of the fabrics originally selected, so the project went into timeout. Hope to be the one selected.
