The first Giveaway for 2023 goes to Victoria and Sandi! They will each receive a wooden Darning Mushroom. These were the inspiration for the special Handcrafted Darning Turnips, one of the beautiful handcrafted wooden items made by our friends, Jacquie and Elizabeth.

I’ll be back with another Giveaway next Wednesday. Until then you can shop for all sorts of sewing notions, books, and other fun stuff at pieceocake.com!

These are so cute and would make a great addition to my mending basket.

Awesome workmanship on these, from the daughter of a carpenter, specializing in unique items like these darners! These would definitely work better when darning socks and/or many other items, rather than the standard round darner, from many years ago.

Who in the world still darns? Except me. I knit socks for my family and when then have holes, I darn them and I do have a darning mushroom but not as beautiful as these.

WishI had held on to my mother’s darning egg. I’ve been using a plastic Easter egg that I glued closed :-). The turnip would be much easier since it has some weight and something to hold on to while darning.

So cute, these tools really make darning easier, and yes I still darn socks and sweaters. I was lucky enough to receive my Grandmother’s wooden darning tool from my mother. I have fond memories of learning by watching her work.

I thought that I had discovered darning as something unusual only to find out that it is now very in (if that word is still used). I guess that I am really behind the times.
