Wednesday Giveaway

Angela Short is this week’s lucky winner and she will receive a package of Long Fine Pins from Little House. They really are long, and very fine but not so bendy that they are hard to use. I use them for some machine piecing and occasionally for applique—especially with wool applique where a long pin is useful.

  1. Loved your Corona quilt. I shared it on my Facebook page with info on your designing the blocks and making the quilt. It went over well and brightened the day of many friends. Thank you.

  2. I read your email about scissors and cutting your own hair. You certainly are brave! But from the photo, it looks like you are good at it! My hair is long, so a few more inches isn’t going to be noticable. ^.^

  3. WOW – I’ve just ventured into “Wool Applique” … I’m certain these would be useful / become a favorite quite fast. Hope my name is chosen! ((Thanks for this suggestion.))

  4. I’m just finishing an involved wool applique project and I can imagine how these pins would have made the process go more smoothly. Would love to give them a try on the next wool project.

    • Reach back with your fingers open a bit, run your fingers next to your scalp, get hair between your index and middle fingers. Pull your fingers, with the hair, away from your scalp about as far our as you think the length should be. Place the open scissors under your fingers and cut. I like a slightly more nuance cut so I sort of pull my fingers and the scissors away from my head as I slowly cut.

If you move your fingers to different, overlapping areas, you will eventually get most of the hair cut to the length that feels good. You can’t see it, but if it feels good you are good to go!

  5. I’ve used Kai scissors for my applique and love them. I haven’t tried the hair trimming scissors yet, but as my hair is getting longer than I’m comfortable with, I’m thinking of trying them. These pins look like they would be great. I’d love to be the happy recipient if I win them.

  6. You did a great job on your haircut!! And it looks like Jim and Belle finally share a common interest (besides food). Those babies are probably keeping the cats busy all day, too, not just the parent birds.

  7. I would love to be the lucky recipient of these long fine needles. There is nothing better than using quality tools and you have done a good job of informing us of hard to find materials. I appreciate your interest in keeping us informed.

  8. I love fine pins that don’t bend. I checked in with my stylist just to make sure she is well. She said she will be working 24/7 for a long time. I want to be first in line!

  9. I’m always looking for a good pin! By the way, you did a great job on your hair! I’m too chicken to try to cut mine, my husband has offered to use the horse clippers (which he used on his own head), but I politely said No, thanks!!!

  10. Always interesting and helpful information from a gal who really knows her stuff and a wonderful quilter. I’m always looking for thin pin and long may work well with my arthritic hands. My birthday is tomorrow the 30th so that would be awesome!

  11. You are brave to cut your own hair. I’ve not tried that in over 50 years. Just before a physics exam, I decided I needed a haircut. Unfortunately I cut my neckline up above the hairline.
