Joyce Kettering emailed this photo of her quilt, Encounters on a Mountain Walk, that she started in 1997. The blocks are from our BOM, A Walk in the Mountains.

It did take me 21 yrs to get it completed, meanly because I did not like the border that you all had for it.  It took many yrs, to decide what I did  want. A friend  helped me to design this border. It is entirely hand appliqued and hand quilted. I enjoyed  working on it most of the time! I am soooo glad that I did it!

I do love the border that Joyce came up with. It is truly special! Thank you, Joyce, for sharing it with us all.

I love the US Postal Service!

And I love the commemorative stamps that the Postal Service offers. I have bought them for years. I have a stash of untouched sheets of my favs because I appreciate the care that went into making each tiny work of art. My latest favs are the Sesame Street stamps. They make every envelope happy.

If you’ve never bought commemorative stamps (reallly? you never have?!) here’s a thing you might not know. The whole sheet is peel and stick. The image on the right can be cut out, peeled off, and stuck to something—like the Blackwing Clutch Notebook that I’ll begin using next week. It is so cute!!!

On a more serious note, the Postal Service does more than provide fun stamps. I rely on the post office to deliver packages and mail. If you order from me at pieceocake.com, your package will be delivered by the post office.

If I could get the attention of anyone in power, I would ask them to please stop messing with the Post Office! I would ask them to please support the PO with whatever funds are necessary. With so many other things to worry about, I really don’t want to add the Post Office to the list.

I really like the gray backgrounds and the way each wheel is the same color. This is a colorway I’ve not seen before. Way to go, Susan, and thank you for sharing!

On masks and ties—Updated 4/25/2020…

Elastic, when we can find it, is what many of us have been using for mask ties. Most wearers like elastic but it bothers some people’s skin. Fabric ties are nice but slow to make.

Ann suggested using strips cut from t-shirts and they work really well… no sewing or serging necessary. We’ve been using T-shirt strips for a while and everyone loves them. Cut strips 1/2˝-3/4˝ x 18˝ either cross-grain or with the grain, it doesn’t seem to matter.

We are cutting ties longer because some of us like tying the ends behind our neck and head rather than in ear loops.

I use a wire “tie-threader” to pull ties through the mask casing, shown in my original mask post. But I realized that people who want to replace ties won’t have seen my bent-wire threader, so I added that information to the instruction sheet I give out with my masks.
