Wednesday Giveaway – Blackwing!

When Becky taught at Empty Spools last month, she split a set of special Vol 651 Blackwing pencils. This week’s winner, Ruth Buchanan, gets the remaining 9 pencils!

They hold the same extra firm graphite as the Natural pencils and are suitable to use (lightly) on fabric. The Vol 651 pencils are a distinctive black and yellow striped design that goes with the story for this limited edition volume. Check out this story and others on our Blackwing page!

Star in the Garden show and tell…

Teri Weed sent me this lovely story:

A few years ago, when I expressed a desire to make Stars in the Garden, my friend Dot Murdoch gave me 8 blocks that she had appliqued when the pattern was first published, along with all the materials to finish it, because she wasn’t going to.  I did, and the attached photo is the finished quilt. She is an amazing appliquer, and I am privileged to be able to finish something she started.

Today is Dot’s birthday—Happy birthday to you! Thank you both for sharing the lovely quilt that you and Teri made together.

Stars in the Garden is still available as a digital pattern, click here or on the photo.

Wednesday Giveaway Winner – Maryann Premoe!

Maryann has won a bottle of Grandma’s Secret Spot Remover! According to legend, Grandma came up with the secret recipe to clean Grandpa’s work-stained clothes. Pretty soon, everyone, including Larry the local mechanic, was clamoring for it. However that may be, this toxin-free stain remover works on oil, grease, paint, make-up, grass, clay, inks, blood, spaghetti sauce, coffee, rust, pet stains and a whole lot more.

A Whimsical show and tell…

Diane Rickenbach wrote to say:

I have finally completed my version of your My Whimsical Quilt Garden pattern. I started collecting fabrics for it in 2014. The appliqué was my hand sewing project to take to quilt group gatherings for several years. During Covid lockdown I finished the last few blocks at home, created the borders, assembled the quilt top and machine quilted on my stationary machine. It was completed in time to display in the Palmetto Quilt Guild’s quilt show this weekend on Hilton Head Island, SC. I love this quilt and have hung it in my breakfast room. What a cheery way to start the day!

I have to agree, this is a very cheery quilt! Thank you, Diane, for sharing your amazing quilt with us all. Your fabric choices are perfect and I’m happy that you finished in time for it to hang in the show. I’ll bet you have fun seeing it there! Happy stitching, now and in the future :-).
