Julie Kiffin, who some of you will remember from the Liberty Quilt Shop, sent this photo of her North Pole quilt…
She wrote:
I made it to go with my North Pole building collection. It was an off and on project for many years and then I enjoyed embellishing it and hand quilting with perle cotton.
Thank you, Julie, for sharing your quilt! It is both happy and festive and I hope you hang it up every year :-).
If any of you are interested, click here to find the ebook :-).
Marie Szlachtianshyn sent this photo of her Steve’s Birds quilt top. She says she wants to add a little more applique and then quilt it but I thought you would like to see it now :-).
I like the light sashing and the pieced outer borders… very nice! Thank you, Marie, for sharing your progress! I look forward to seeing this quilt when it’s all done :-).
Cindy Nichols Turner sent me a photo of her newly finished Baby Bullseye quilt. It was her first foundation paper piecing project and she said that she really enjoyed it. I love the color choices and Cindy, your piecing is fantastic. Well done!
A professional quilter with a long arm did a very nice job on the quilting. The lines in the white background enhance the design of the center.
Suzanne Cassanelli sent a photo of her just completed, amazing Steve’s Birds quilt and the story that goes with it. Be sure to read the story :-).
I just finished this beautiful Steve’s Birds quilt and I wanted to send you a photo. I’m so happy and proud of myself. I never imagined I could complete such a project. It’s my very first applique, and I learned so much from your classes. I’d bought all the patterns but never actually finished a project before this one.
These birds are a gift for a friend I’ve known for fifty years. I’ve decided to make and give a quilt to everyone I’ve truly loved in my life. I still have a little time. Thanks you again for this pattern and for your classes, which are so clear, so comprehensive, and for your kindness. Joyeux Noel… Suzanne
Thank you, Suzanne, for your kind words and for sharing the story of this quilt. You did a lovely job AND you gifted the quilt to your long-time friend. How wonderful! And you are going to make more quilts specifically to give to special people. That is a very good idea. I don’t always know where my quilts are going to end up and I’m going to remember this…
Doesn’t that sound wonderful? Come spend some time with me in Paducah at the AQS SEAM RETREAT—four relaxing days away from home, all about hand applique. I’ll teach you all the techniques you need (and then some!) to make my brand-new wall quilt, Christmas Cottage Cheer.
This cute quilt has never been published before. It’s made in two layers: the inner globe is appliqued onto a square, and then a floral layer is appliqued on a larger square. Once both layers are complete, we trim them up and stitch the circular center in place. Gold circles make it fancy :-).
This class is great for all skill levels—even if you’re brand new to applique. If you’re interested, click here. And if you have any questions at all, feel free to email me at becky.pieceocake@gmail.com.
Just so you know, my days of in-person teaching are winding down. So if taking a class together in person is on your bucket list, now’s the time to jump in. I’d love to see you there!
Barbara Hotelling sent the photo of her Steve’s Birds quilt top and I want to share it with you all because her birds are just wonderful!
Wanda wrote: I learned a lot while doing this project. I did the smaller version/size of the pattern and many of the pieces were quite small. I really didn’t believe I had the skills to do the appliqué. I don’t think I could have done it without your Appliqué Mastery class and your various u-tube videos. I’ve come to enjoy needle turn appliqué, even though I am extremely slow! That’s ok – it’s the process, right? Anyway, while this is far from perfect I am happy with the result. I just started hand quilting, so it will be a while before the quilt is complete. I am certainly enjoying the project. Thanks for everything you do!
Thank you, Wanda, for your kind words and for sharing your quilt! I hope you enjoy hand quilting it and I look forward to seeing it then too. May you have many happy stitches!
