Show and tell…

Renee Medley sent me pictures (and a letter!) in the mail with her show and tell.

She wrote that her mother hand appliquéd this Thru Grandmother’s Window quilt top about 10 years ago but then passed away in 2016 before quilting it. Renee set quilting aside but, during the pandemic, began hand quilting again. This quilt is the 4th that she has finished in 2 years. Wonderful!

Renee, your hand quilting is lovely. I know your mother must be smiling down on you. And what a joy it must be to sleep under. Thank you for sharing your quilt and your story with me. May you continue to have many happy stitches!

Thru Grandmother’s Window was a block of month published many years ago. The downloadable patterns are still available on my website.

Show and tell…

Caroline Doyle just finished her Birds in Toyland quilt in January and I cannot believe I lost this post! Caroline, I’m sorry to be late but I am so happy to share you quilt because it is wonderful!

The applique and embellishments are delightful but I also appreciate the subtle mix of colors in the pieced blocks. Congratulations, Caroline, on an excellent finish and thank you for sharing your quilt with us!

Birds in Toyland is currently as a class on Creative Spark. The book will be out Spring 2022.

Star in the Garden show and tell…

Teri Weed sent me this lovely story:

A few years ago, when I expressed a desire to make Stars in the Garden, my friend Dot Murdoch gave me 8 blocks that she had appliqued when the pattern was first published, along with all the materials to finish it, because she wasn’t going to.  I did, and the attached photo is the finished quilt. She is an amazing appliquer, and I am privileged to be able to finish something she started.

Today is Dot’s birthday—Happy birthday to you! Thank you both for sharing the lovely quilt that you and Teri made together.

Stars in the Garden is still available as a digital pattern, click here or on the photo.

A Whimsical show and tell…

Diane Rickenbach wrote to say:

I have finally completed my version of your My Whimsical Quilt Garden pattern. I started collecting fabrics for it in 2014. The appliqué was my hand sewing project to take to quilt group gatherings for several years. During Covid lockdown I finished the last few blocks at home, created the borders, assembled the quilt top and machine quilted on my stationary machine. It was completed in time to display in the Palmetto Quilt Guild’s quilt show this weekend on Hilton Head Island, SC. I love this quilt and have hung it in my breakfast room. What a cheery way to start the day!

I have to agree, this is a very cheery quilt! Thank you, Diane, for sharing your amazing quilt with us all. Your fabric choices are perfect and I’m happy that you finished in time for it to hang in the show. I’ll bet you have fun seeing it there! Happy stitching, now and in the future :-).

Friday (tomorrow) join me to hear about my new Welcome to the North Pole online class…

I will be visiting with Sophie Scardaci (or Jessica Vaughn if Sophie’s internet is still questionable) live tomorrow, Friday, March 18, on YouTube and Facebook about my new Welcome to the North Pole class!

We’ll start at 12PM PDT, 2PM CDT, 3PM EDT.

The book has been in print since 1997 (amazing, right?!). If you have the book but have not made the quilt because the blocks look a little scary, this class is for you! I walk you through all of the needle turn hand applique techniques you need to know to make this quilt.

There isn’t an ebook for Welcome to the North Pole so please be aware that you need to acquire the book separately from the class. There is a free digital table runner pattern included in the class that you can practice techniques on if you prefer.

PS: We had to cancel the previously scheduled event because of a bad internet connection.

Watch me tomorrow…

Oops! Sophie is having internet problems so the plan is that we will visit on Friday, same time. I’ll post the link when I have it.
