Wednesday Giveaway

Oops! I forgot to post the winner last Thursday! Wendy Richards won the Gimle zippered notions case with a geometric print exterior, and denim interior. I’ll bet she has it already! It is just the right size at 9″ x 3.75″. A sturdy brass YKK zipper with leather lace tie assures that your goodies stay inside.

If you are not the winner and you’d like a Gimle pouch, you can find them and all sorts of sewing notions, books, and other fun stuff at pieceocake.com!

Shipping at pieceocake.com is free on orders over $75 every day.

Mysterious Challenge – Applique Block

October 1 is the deadline Susan and I set for me to have the 18″ x 18″ applique block drawn. This is my rough sketch. I was playing with two ideas at the same time. I liked both; Susan preferred the bottom, left iteration. You’ll probably see the other side of this drawing in a quilt at some point in the future.

Here is the link to the finished pattern. It is a PDF file and will print out onto 6 pages that you will need to trim and tape together. I used a ruler to keep the center lines straight.

Susan and I both have finished sewing the blocks we are going to share with each other. Rather than wait until November 1 we are going to go ahead and share them. I’ll post more photos once my design wall is free and I can put them up.

Happy stitching!

Show and tell…

Sharon Rutledge emailed this story to me a few days ago. She wrote:

“Last night I spent some time with my grandkids. My granddaughter brought out some of her baby dolls and some of her baby doll blankets. This blanket is one I made from scraps that I had. It’s about 16×20. I haven’t seen this for awhile so it was nice to see it was still in service.”

“After searching in her closet I also found the quilt that I made for her about 6 years ago.”

I love both quilts. The subtle piecing of the background sets off the flowers and borders so well. And the doll quilt is wonderful—and both look like they have been well loved. Thank you, Sharon, for sharing!

Wednesday Giveaway

Susan Spiers is this week’s lucky winner! She will receive two different needle threaders that are compact, portable, and that really work! (Of course you do have to see well enough to put the wire through the eye of the needle :-).)

If you are not Susan and you’d like one or more needle threaders, you can find them and all sorts of sewing notions, books, and other fun stuff at pieceocake.com!

Shipping is free on orders over $75 every day.

Books in harmony, two…

I wrote about Chris and Lorna’s books in the most recent newsletter. I just found the blog post from January 2016 showing the very first rearranging of books by color. Click here.

With the newly added shelving, the books now go down the entire wall which is at least 16′ long. Nearly all of the books had to come off the shelves so that new books could be placed in the appropriate color space.

There was a lot of dusting going on. And deep thought.

There are a lot of books with whit/cream spines. I think they sorted those first.

It almost makes me wish I had this many books. Instead I have a kindle with a nice cover…

and an interesting stack of quilt and art books.

Chris and Lorna’s books are way prettier. And more fun.

I, however, have less to dust :-).
