A Whimsical show and tell…

Diane Rickenbach wrote to say:

I have finally completed my version of your My Whimsical Quilt Garden pattern. I started collecting fabrics for it in 2014. The appliqué was my hand sewing project to take to quilt group gatherings for several years. During Covid lockdown I finished the last few blocks at home, created the borders, assembled the quilt top and machine quilted on my stationary machine. It was completed in time to display in the Palmetto Quilt Guild’s quilt show this weekend on Hilton Head Island, SC. I love this quilt and have hung it in my breakfast room. What a cheery way to start the day!

I have to agree, this is a very cheery quilt! Thank you, Diane, for sharing your amazing quilt with us all. Your fabric choices are perfect and I’m happy that you finished in time for it to hang in the show. I’ll bet you have fun seeing it there! Happy stitching, now and in the future :-).

Friday (tomorrow) join me to hear about my new Welcome to the North Pole online class…

I will be visiting with Sophie Scardaci (or Jessica Vaughn if Sophie’s internet is still questionable) live tomorrow, Friday, March 18, on YouTube and Facebook about my new Welcome to the North Pole class!

We’ll start at 12PM PDT, 2PM CDT, 3PM EDT.

The book has been in print since 1997 (amazing, right?!). If you have the book but have not made the quilt because the blocks look a little scary, this class is for you! I walk you through all of the needle turn hand applique techniques you need to know to make this quilt.

There isn’t an ebook for Welcome to the North Pole so please be aware that you need to acquire the book separately from the class. There is a free digital table runner pattern included in the class that you can practice techniques on if you prefer.

PS: We had to cancel the previously scheduled event because of a bad internet connection.

Watch me tomorrow…

Oops! Sophie is having internet problems so the plan is that we will visit on Friday, same time. I’ll post the link when I have it.

Show and tell…

JoAnn Jackson sent me this photo of her lovely Lorna’s Vine quilt…

Lorna’s Vine by JoAnn Jackson

JoAnn used water soluble stabilizer in her applique and washed it to remove the stiffness. She thinks the colors are a little less vibrant but I think they look wonderful!

Thank you, JoAnn, for sharing your quilt with us and congratulations on a great finish :-).

Show and tell… Birds in Toyland!

Pam Hill was in my Birds in Toyland class and she finished her quilt… Isn’t it wonderful!

Birds in Toyland, made by Pam Hill

I love the way she wrote ‘Merry Christmas’.

The pattern for Birds in Toyland is included in my class on Creative Spark. The book with all of the patterns will be out Spring 2022. Click here to find the class.

Thanks to Sue Kersey for sharing this photo of her Butterfly Garden quilt. She wrote:

I just loved this pattern so much and this was so much fun to make and quilt.  You have been wonderful to share so much with us all during this pandemic. I so look forward to your emails.

I have spent the last two years using the wonderful fabrics & patterns that I had in my quilting studio.  I knew all my stash would be needed someday and I feel so lucky to have enjoyed it during this stay at home time in our lives.

Butterfly Garden made by Sue Kersey

Sue has a very nice stash of fabrics :-). I love the colors in the butterflies and the way she kept the colors moving across the face of the quilt. Well done, Sue!

Sue’s butterflies are vertical whereas mine are flying on the diagonal. Both are good choices and I’m happy to have the opportunity to see the blocks in a different way. That’s one of the best parts of any Show & Tell!

Happy stitching to you all :-).
