Relax Wrinkles (in your vinyl)

I have told people to use a blow dryer to release creases in their clear vinyl—I finally made a video showing how it works!

I showed this in class and one student says that she soaks her vinyl in her tub in very hot water, then hangs it to dry. That works. You can also place it in the back seat of a hot car.

A tour of my studio…

Yesterday in Time Out I showed my work space. I don’t have a giant space, but I do have enough space. And now that I think of it, my small-is space keeps me from acquiring more stuff than I really need. It’s a win!

Mystery needles…

Kristina asked me to talk about needles in Time Out and that’s what I did yesterday, May 19. Here it is, in case you missed it. (If there is something you would like me to talk about in time out, send me an email.

Martha Bigley commented to remind me that the needles shown in the Needle Guide are life-size. That is really helpful and I wish I had mentioned that in the video. I will add, though, that needles vary in thickness and length from company to company which means that your mystery needles may not match those in the guide. But it definitely does point you in the right direction!

Dinosaurs!

I am helping my friend, MJ Kinman, spread the word about Mighty Magnus and his big, beautiful dino buddies! The patterns are cute and perfect for dinosaur-loving kids of all ages.

Textile artist Annette Frye created 6 adorable quilt patterns to honor her great-nephew Magnus. Little Magnus was born with a genetic condition. After a valiant battle, Annette’s sweet boy left this world when he was only 2 years old. Annette’s desire to honor her little “Mighty Magnus” culminated in these 6 joyful patterns that she’s delighted to share with all of us.

In addition to being adorable, Annette’s patterns are very “do-able”. She originally designed them with freezer paper piecing techniques, copying the patterns onto Freezer Paper Sheets. But English Paper Piecing lovers can create them, too by copying the patterns onto EPP Specialty Paper and cutting them apart into the paper shapes.

Click here to find the patterns on MJ’s site.

There’s a free Sew-Along! Click here to register.

Watch the video below of MJ and Annette for more info. Happy Dino-stitching!

I have a mold question…

Do you remember the giant winter storm we had in Texas, in February? It turns out that Lorna and Chris had a small pipe break that went unnoticed long enough that now there is mold under the house.

The pipe is fixed and the space is drying out, but they need to find a mold-abatement company—as do a whole lot of other people. Getting someone to even return a call is kind of a problem.

Do any of you have a recommendation of who they can contact in the Sherman, McKinney, or Dallas area? If so, please do email me at becky.pieceocake@gmail.com

It doesn’t look that bad as winter storms go, does it? It was so much worse than it looks.
